Lineage fmaThis painting started as pull art. I created a painting using the drip art technique then looked at it if for a few days. As I was walking by I saw an eye. I quickly drew it in, then the lips and the nose. Days later the painting developed into an ancient woman growing her roots, spreading out the lines of history in her hair.

Once I knew what I wanted to paint I began to think about how people talk about wanting a new start or reinventing themselves. It occurred to me that more than not, the choice to reinvent ourselves is thrust upon us. Time changes, other people change the course of our lives for good or bad. In these ways, we are given the opportunity to change ourselves for the better.

I honestly believe that our actions today can change our lives in ways that can benefit others for generations to come. So I ask you, what will you do for your lineage? How will you improve the lines that stretch and grow from now to the future?

Lineage d2This acrylic, original painting depicts a woman with her eyes facing forward. She is wearing tribal markings and her hair is growing into tree branches. I’ve used a mix of gold and copper on the profile portrait with bits of yellow, red and green. Several wild flowers grow from her branches. In contrast to her is the sky around which holds sparks of red, yellow, blue, and green in a bed of turquoise. Just beside her lips in white you will see the exhale which stands between now and the future.
