Lucid

Lucid fmaSometimes a girl has to go Avante Garde and that’s exactly what I did with this piece.

This painting called Lucid was created by using wet acrylics allowed to flow into each other to create a surreal, colorful yet shadowy, mysterious atmosphere. The blue face is part of the sky line and everything flows from her. From her head rises white clouds that crack and become mist that surrounds a shadowy black figure which is also her hair. The clouds flow over him, around and above him to form a bare white tree. The white tree and the shadowy figure stand on the a mix of yellow, green and blue earthly shoulders.

Lucid is a small painting at 4 inches by 4 inches. It was painted on textured card stock. Continue reading ‘Lucid’

On the Rocks: A Fish Tale

SOLD

Friday evening I began to worry about my big fish Jocelyn because she was hovering above the rocks at the bottom of the tank. I went over in my head what could possibly be wrong with her. Old age isn’t the problem. Able to live up to 25 years she’s just a youngster at age six. She’s not been over fed, she’s not bloated, her bladder is healthy, what’s wrong? Usually the big fish is graceful and playful as she swims wit her two tank makes, but something has changed, something is off.

Sweet Dreams

In this mixed media painting a little black girl flies through the night in her orange gown and holds the moon while dreaming.

The original painting is on cardboard and includes oil paints and oil pastels. The background swirls were created with puff paint to make them 3D and her dress was made with pieces of coffee filters died with orange and red watercolors. The coffee filters were allowed to dry then they were glued to the surface after which I painted a thin layer of clear finishing glaze. The digital version shows a change in her dress. Instead of a solid orange textured dress the digital version shows flowers with various shades of yellow, orange and red.

Art Details: A bright orange dress, flowing black hair, long eye lashing, black child holding the moon, pink, blue and white swirls, sleeping child under bright stars.

In both versions of this painting the little one dreams peacefully.
