In Angel's Arms

This painting was originally titled “Birth of a Fairy” but as I looked at it longer she reminded me more of an angel than a fairy.

So here we have an African-American angel holding a child with her wings span wide as a shield. Her skirt comes down and paints the earth in vivid colors of blue, green and purple.

Sundrip

What is Sundrip? Sundrip is hope that drips from the sun.

Take the breath of the morning sun and run. Take the fire of the morning sun and live. Dance with it. Laugh with it. Accept the hope that the new sun brings and never forget the blessings that drip ever so lightly.

The fairy in this painting stands slightly to one side but her goal is to stand in the middle where she will most benefit from the warmth of the sun. The painting above represents the purpose of Sundrip – Art for Life. Each piece is one step closer to the middle where every colour is clearer and every hope is brighter.

The Heart of Light

The light swirls around her legs, up through her butterfly wings and out of her fingertips. She touches the tallest flower and it continues to grow. Together they stand in The Heart of Light.

Painting details: The little girl’s wings are partially transparent. The stem of the large flower is shaped into a heart at the little one’s feet. All the flowers come from the heart, all light is directed at the heart. There’s one small ladybug in the far right corner of the painting. And of course there’s a sunflower in her brown hair.

Each Day A Gift

In my art I often symbolize youth and innocence with the colour green. I use purple and blue to express value and honor. White is usually synonymous with purity. In the painting called “Each Day A Gift” this young girl stands with her arms extended as she accepts a gift from the world that embraces her value and honors her innocent and the purity of her heart.

Art details: The young girl’s hair is made of leaves as are her wings. Purity (white clouds) are at her feet, the trees are blue and shades of deep purple. A white bright light centers her sky. This painting is based on a pencil sketch.

Love In Lightning

The more I look at this the more I like it.

This is based on a dream I had about someone I loved asking me to leave. What we had was destroyed by the ghost of my past. He asked me to leave but wanted me to let him keep my artwork. I was furious that he’d deny me but wished to keep my heart, furious like a lightning storm.

In this painting the young woman is naked and vulnerable to the elements, the elements that come from inside. Each lighting strike comes from her hair and splits the entire painting into fragments and lines all leading back to ghost of her past.
