We all know one, love one, a person who can’t walk away from a garage sale. She’ll turn the car around in the middle of the street or leap over fences to grab a cheap doodad. There we are spectators in her compulsion. Helpless to stop her we choke on the dust she leaves behind as she dives for that very special doily. Thirty-five cents, a quarter, the sound of such words makes her drool. Will she ever stop? Is there help for her? Will there ever be a Garage Sale Support Group for people addicted to other people’s junk sitting on the side of the road? If there is such a group surely they can help the woman in this painting who totally lost control when the homeowner extended her sale by one day.

Here is a picture of step three in the process to complete the little black angel painting. In step 2 the little girl’s arms are to her side which was done to make it easier for me to go back and change to the position I wanted them in. Since I wasn’t certain I practiced first on my scratch board shown in front of the large painting.

I tend to get hyper and over zealous about my art from time to time and think an idea is a good one so I go ahead and do it only to discover it wasn’t’ a good idea at all. The scratch board allows me to make mistakes without royally messing up the main project. If I see it’s a good idea I can stop working on the scratch board and transfer the idea to the larger painting having first practiced the strokes and the idea.
I mentioned in a different entry that I also try working digitally. Below is an example of the scratch board with digital alterations that give me ideas for step four.
So, this is step three. Step four will show the angel’s arms exactly as shown on the scratch board. I hope to have facial features in place and a few more details on her clothing.

The original sketch was done in watercolor but this painting done on 9 x 12 acid free paper is mixed media. In addition to heavily pigmented oil paints I used ink, silk flowers and white lace giving the painting a real life touch. Each silk flower is dotted with metallic gold paint, each white bubble is circled with blue metallic paint.
You’ll see the stems glow in three layers of green on top of a swirling blue background. The tea pot itself is gold, brown and copper tones with a large pink and white flower. A closer look at the lace reveals bits of purple, pink and different shades of blue. This is a homey painting that would fit nicely in your kitchen or dining area.

More details: Tea at My House is sealed to help preserve the vibrancy of the paint. It is signed and dated on the front. There’s a white boarder which allows for framing making the image size a full 8 x 10 inches.

A mix of Prussian blue, titanium white, sap green and yellow ochre meet peacefully to create an abstract ocean view.
Ocean Four is the last of it’s series and is painted on an unused fabric softener sheet to create an original pattern which compliments the earth tones.

‘Best Friends’ shows two flower girls, one with red petal hair, one with yellow petals standing in a field holding a diamond pink heart. The girls have peachy skin and big smiles. One dress is vibrant blue with gold trim and matching slippers. The other dress is ruby red with matching slippers.
This is a mixed media original painting created with oil paints, glitter glue pens and touches of gel pen.
