A child stands in the landscape of imagination. It is her dreamscape. Imagination, it is a child’s best friend. It should be nurtured and grown, cultivated and set free.

Image use of the little girl is with permission from the blog author of Becoming Three.
Detail 2 - Her arm peeks out of her dream world, touching reality.

The fun part about this piece is how the stems of two leaves extend to create the antennas on the butterfly. Typical green ivy turned blue and gold with a touch of purple adds a fantasy quality. This is high texture, high detail and crystal clear paint/mouse strokes. Truly a fun piece to create.
Primary Colors: Green gold, fantasy green,
Accent colors: Sky blue, cobalt blue, coral, purple

Butterfly Garden
by F. Magdalene

As I painted this I kept thinking of a borderline personality trait called black and white thinking. I tend to see things as all good or all bad. Instead of being on one side of the extreme I’d like to be a little bit more towards the middle. The individual in the painting leans to one side and looks towards the sun. She is hopeful that one day she will stand closer to the middle of life and see gradation of tone. The world can be in full colour but when the mind has suffered a blow colours begin to look alike until finally only two are left. The division is stark: black (bad) white (good).
It is a gift to humankind to see in colour. It is my hope that I will one day regain the gift of colour, the ability to see gradations instead of black and white, all good or all bad. When I once again hold this blessing of colour, I’ll never take my eyes off it.
What is Sundrip? Sundrip is hope that drips from the sun.
Take the breath of the morning sun and run. Take the fire of the morning sun and live. Dance with it. Laugh with it. Accept the hope that the new sun brings and never forget the blessings that drip ever so lightly.

Sundrip is on Redbubble in various print options.

This painting started out as a dragon fly and ended up being a flower made of dragon flies with one dragon fly in the right hand corner. It’s another example of starting out to paint one thing and ending up with a totally different picture.

As I zoomed in the check the integrity of the painting I realized I liked the head of the flower by itself too so I cropped it. It reminds me of something I’d see at a children’s hospital on the wall. At Riley Hospital for Children here in Indianapolis the walls have art by children. They’re usually filled with colour even though the kids are very, very ill. I find that inspiring. The rest of this entry can be found on my healing journal. I try to keep this journal here for artwork and the other for processing experiences.
The People Behind My Eyes is a survivors journal.
