Lucid

Lucid fmaSometimes a girl has to go Avante Garde and that’s exactly what I did with this piece.

This painting called Lucid was created by using wet acrylics allowed to flow into each other to create a surreal, colorful yet shadowy, mysterious atmosphere. The blue face is part of the sky line and everything flows from her. From her head rises white clouds that crack and become mist that surrounds a shadowy black figure which is also her hair. The clouds flow over him, around and above him to form a bare white tree. The white tree and the shadowy figure stand on the a mix of yellow, green and blue earthly shoulders.

Lucid is a small painting at 4 inches by 4 inches. It was painted on textured card stock. Continue reading ‘Lucid’

Let the River Wash Over Me

This is an original painting in acrylic and ink on reclaimed canvas. The painting shows a female face at the edge of the canvas. She’s holding her breath under a sea of color. Her hair is red and yellow flames of fire that never extinguish. Even though black and turquoise water rush over her, she will resurface.

Painting size: 7 x 5 inches

PTSD No3 Whisper

I had no idea there would be a series of paintings called PTSD but there is. . .

In PTSD No3 there’s a river that flows from the sky right through the woman, past the eyes and forms the figures dress. The dress runs over the brick wall and simply stops. The paint on the brick wall has bits of stone mixed in making this piece multidimensional. I had to mix in a bit of stone with the sunflower painting because sunflowers in stone is significant to me. There are also tiny little details, layer upon layer of color and edge to edge movement which all comes together to form PTSD No3 Whisper.

Whisper can be purchased in my ETSY shop by clicking the link provided on the sidebar. If you do not have an ETSY account you may contact me to use PayPal.

Pull to Pieces

Sold on 12/29/10 .

Pull to Pieces is a small oil painting (5 x 7) created with the aide of a toothpick. One of the fun things about this painting is that it is painted whole and strong at the top but it begins to crack and mute towards the bottom.

Family Portrait – Loving Leah

This painting was inspired by a Hallmark presentation called Loving Leah. Leah’s mother said concerning her daughter’s happiness, “A mother is only as happy as her saddest child” This touched me and I knew I had to paint.

The mother in this version has one small tear in each eye. Her child is smiling.

I suppose you could say this was also an experiment with textures and cubism.  Also, I wanted a rustic look to show the extent to which this pair endured hardships.  Trials and tribulations have taken a tole on them both, still nothing can corrode or break down a bond made of love and nurturing.

Some may be able to see a mother and child in this painting while others might see a woman and her inner child. On a more spiritual level one could see themselves in the arms of the  One who loved them first. In all three examples hardships have been endured and beauty is untouched.

Commentary: Growing Into Scars

This is a follow up to the painting called PTSD.

This one illustrates how it is possible to move beyond the worst of the past. It is possible to have the flames behind you and to look to the future with hope and certainty. Every scar may not pass but once we learn to heal what we can and manage what we can’t true growth and true freedom will begin.
Life can be beautiful. Life will be beautiful.
