Work Hard Then Play Hard

Well, it seems the least of my worries was the possibility that Captain would come home drunk from the doggie sitters house. He came home limping. He could hardly get off the floor last night. He was braking his Mama’s heart! He didn’t get into a fight or anything, he just played hard. Since he had 3 broken legs in the past and is now 7 years old at 125 lbs he has a bit of trouble from time to time. It seems more often than from time to time. My little guy is slowing down. So, I wrapped his back paw, which he was not putting weight on, and gave him an ice pack and laid him down. I knew he wasn’t feeling well when he didn’t even try to get up and follow me around to where the biscuits are. So, he’ll be in bed most of the day I’m sure. My poor little buddy. Bella is getting better but she’s still sleeping a lot. So right now it’s just me and Gracie. Gracie gets spayed on Tuesday so I have that to worry about. I seem to panic, well when I got Bella spayed I worried so badly that I’d lose her. She got anemic and we had to do some stuff to help her get back. That was so scary. Tuesday will be one very stressful day until I see that Gracie won’t go into some horrible reaction from the anesthesia. Her history of health isn’t that strong. Heck, she almost didn’t make it past 6 months so my worry for her is high. But anyway, no drunk dog today just a very tired and soar one. For him, I bet it was worth it. He got to play with his buddies.

I know that it will only take a few months and I’ll be forced to retire my body from his service animal position. The thought of Cappy not going everywhere with me is just a sad one. Heck, he’s been by my side for the last 6 years just about everywhere I went. It’s not that he’s dying or anything but it’s too hard on his legs to go with me places. I still just wish I could take him home to Tyler to let him see that grass and clay ground. I don’t know why that seems important to me but it does.

  • Poor Cap!! nothing worse than playing and hurting afterwards! that’s not true, like you said he had fun, he got to play with his buddies! We sure hope Bella starts to be more of her old self soon for her sake and yours. and now Gracie gets spayed this Tuesday?? Your gonna have an animal clinic going soon!! If we were close to you we’d come over and help, they all seem to be so cute and sweet.

  • Oh, poor little guy. Or should I say poor big guy. 125 pounds, wow! That’s a whole lot of dog. I bet he is like a big old teddy bear, perfectly lovable. We sure are enjoying out new little puppy. It feels good to have a dog again. It had been several years since we had one.

  • It’s tough when pets get old. I have a cat who will be 15 this year if he makes it. He’s missing most of his teeth and has arthritis in his hips. I guess he’s still doing ok for the most part. He still gets around the house and he eats and drinks.
