Once she was out the door, I would run through the house pulling apart all my cushioned furniture. You see, she smoked. I couldn't ask her not to smoke because I did too. So, I would tear apart the house looking for lit cigerette butts which I found to many time to be comfortable with. She was an elderly woman and often simply misplaced her butts. It was a stong fear of coming home to a house on fire. My solution? I quit smoking. Then I could keep my MIL from smoking in my house. That was 17 years ago and I haven't smoked since.
