Festivities, Politics and History

I think the bad weather cleared up enough so that this weekends festivities could go on. So much is going on in Indy this week end it’s not even funny. There’s the Jazz Fest, the Pride Fest and the Juneteenth celebration which all took place yesterday. I wanted badly to go to the Juneteenth celebration but there were just too many people. I wanted to go for the history of it cause well, I’m a history buff. All the festivities took place downtown where there was no major flooding that would take weeks or days to drain and dry. The area I’m in is getting better. I really hope we get at least today without rain. That would be very nice.

In reference to the Pride Fest my roommate asked me why it is that the majority don’t have a festival. I told him if there was a heterosexual pride festival it would be boring and uneventful so much so that you’d stop the “festivities” and come to the other side of the street (pun intended.) He kept calling himself “the majority.” I smiled and said, “Barney, as a heterosexual white male you’re a minority.” A mischievous grin spread on my face. He kept quiet and drove us home.

I think by now everyone has heard that Tim Russert died. I was sitting at McDonald’s when the report came in. They interviewed several people about his life and things along that line. As the report went on I noticed something, I have a hard time telling the reporters a part. They all look so much alike that it’s hard to tell them apart. Brian Williams was reporting Tim’s death but he looks so much like Peter Jennings it’s not even funny. Tom Brokaw will eventually have the Walter Cronkite look to him. Look, everybody but Tim Russert (the first picture) all have the same haircut. Is this a standard in the industry? They all have the same forehead. Three of them smile straight, three have a crooked smile and Mike Wallace has a smile that says, “I may be psychotic.”

Here’s a tad bit of trivia for you.

Do you know how many of these anchormen are alive?
Which anchormen passed and how?
Which anchorman is considered “the most trusted man in America?”
Which anchorman does a commercial promoting depression awareness and treatment?
Do you know why the anchorman was depressed?

One more thing….I hate to admit it but I’m on the Obama bandwagon…. dang it. I don’t give a flying flip about politics but this election is no doubt historical in so many ways. When do we get an African-American male, a White female and a “War Hero” all running at the same time? This all happened shortly after the first time a woman lie in state and the first time a woman was named Speaker of the House. It has been an exciting few years in political history but this year has been phenomenal. I read whatever I can about Obama’s life as a youngster, as a college student, a grad, a man looking for himself and a family man.

What I find interesting is that people keep saying Obama is too young to run the White House. Might I remind you that youth didn’t stop Joan of Arc. I think her very first conquest and leadership role went quite well. However, like Joan of Arc, if Obama gets in the white house he will be killed. Come on, don’t even look shocked. He knows it, others know it. So here’s a quick note to Hillary Clinton. If Obama offers you the VP take it cause they will kill this man and you’ll get the seat. Cause those with a chaffed neck and white hoods aren’t going to have a black man in the White House. I understand why Obama’s running. I appreciate his boldness, his ability to motivate and educate and I appreciate that a man would give his life for what he believes in. That’s all I have to say about that. Even still, he’s going to be assassinated and when he is you’ll get the seat. That’s my advice to you….oh, and come on out of the closet. Everyone knows you’re gay.

A black man, a lesbian and a “war hero” all want to be President of these United States. One will be assassinated, one won’t live through a full term cause he’s so old, that just leaves us with Hilary and this here political report by Austin. You should have voted for Hilary. She’s the only one that would live through a full term.

  • If he makes Hilary his veep, SHE’ll be the one who kills him…. the woman wants to President!

  • Ditto what Rosemarie said. I’m “gunning” for Hilary as the assasin.

  • Sad, isn’t it, how nothing has changed in this country when it comes to racial discrimination. I don’t think Obama’s too young to run this country, and he seems to have a good head on his shoulders. I don’t care about his ethnicity. Kennedy was the first Catholic president, and (from what I remember hearing as a child) people couldn’t people a Catholic would ever get voted in. Of course, look how it ended for him.

Hilary gay? Hmmm, that’s news to me. Thanks for the images that gives me, what a way to start my day!
