The Doll House

My first doll houseWhile talking to Dr. D one of the smaller ones popped out. Wide eyed and a bit frightened she slid to the far end of the sofa and right to the floor. Within her sights was a doll house. She’d seen it before and told him he needed to sweep her bedroom because it was dusty. She asked all kinds of questions about the house leading me to believe she’s in the “why” stage. She then said, “We should get one of these.” He asked what we would do with it. She said kind of confused, “Play with it.” She liked the wooden house. It looked real, not like a Fisher Price house with bold screaming colours that don’t allow the eyes to rest. For most of the session they talked about the house and different parts of it. Little did he know her small wish would be granted. For 99 cents at the local thrift store we brought home our first doll house ever. It is of course a fixer upper but in the spirit of a child I say, “It’s mine, all mine.” I don’t care if it’s a fixer upper or not. We’ll paint it and do whatever we want with it. Oh, someone said we should do a tiny mural inside. Oh how fun.

I think Bella wanted in on the fun too cause she poked her head in the photo.

  • How cool! What a wonderful dollhouse. A mural does sound fun. Oh, the possibilities. I hope you have a wonderful time fixing it up and making it all your own.

  • I have to call the decorator. I’m thinking periwinkle blue, cream and antique rose for the living room. I think I’ll deck out the kitchen in Italian marble, emerald and light gray sounds about right. We should knock down the wall in the restroom and expand it and put in a larger tub and maybe hers and hers sinks. There’s even a little porch for flowers so I’ve got to call my gardener too. We must have sunflowers in the yard…can’t have my first house void of sunflowers….that wouldn’t be right.

If I don’t stop smiling I’m going to bruise my cheeks.
I may not get any painting done if I don’t stop doing the happy clap. It’s hard to hold the brush and do the happy clap.

  • Your doll house is totally cuter than mine! I got mine at a garage sale last year, but with all the moving around I did never got a chance to do a thing to it. I think I’ll start working on it this fall.

Congrats on your first doll house! I can just picture you doing the happy clap!

  • My doll house is in the barn. I think it’s probably a fixer upper by now but someday I hope to bring it back into the house and begin working on it again.

I’m glad that you found one that pleases you.

  • I wish you could see the smile on my face right now. The smallest things can make a person’s day. I can’t wait to see the “after”.

  • I’m going to buy a doll house for me ….. I mean my daughter……. when we get the downstairs rec room fixed up. I had a wooden one that I got for Christmas right before my parents split. But then my dad kept losing his temper when we would try to work on it together. So it never got put together. My grandmoter had assembled wooden furniture for it – I think I still have some of that.

I can see you having a lot of fun with your remodel. Don’t forget artwork for the walls !!!

  • What a wonderful idea. I bet the mural will be fantastic. It is so cute. I never liked dollhouses, but I loved all the miniture stuff and liked looking at other people’s houses. Say, “hi,” to Bella. She is beautiful. Looks like she is thinking, “isn’t this supposed to be a picture of me!”
