So what’s new in my world? Well, it appears I’m going to be a grandmother. Yup… but I’m not in the least bit thrilled about it. I took her to get fixed and they said they’d have to abort the puppies before they fixed her. Hell no, no you can’t abort the puppies.
Damn it. I can’t believe this. I laugh out of shock cause I’m like, oh my gosh. She had to be pregnant before she got to the shelter. Figures after I adopted her she’d show significant signs of being with pup. Part of the reason I’m not in the least bit thrilled is that she’s just a baby, she’s only about 10 months old which is too young for a litter. This will be her first.
I shake my head at the irresponsibility of pet owners. Here in Indy it costs $30 to spay or neuter a dog under 61 pounds at the lower cost center. One bag of decent dog food is about $16. If cost is a concern doesn’t it make better sense to spay/neuter once than buy a bag of dog food twice a month? Not only is spay/neuter cheaper it’s the right thing to do.
So now we have a ten month old puppy who will pop out puppies of her own early November. This is so wrong, wrong in so many ways. Sure she’ll adjust and yes it happens all the time but it doesn’t make it right. Think about it this way, you’ve got a daughter who just got her period and now she’s pregnant. Are you happy about it? Nope, cause she’s too young. Her body is old enough to start menses but not mature enough to give birth. It’s unhealthy and unsafe. Sure it happens and both mother and baby live through it but it’s never a good thing when a child has a child. In my opinion this is along those lines. This is a young body that is old enough to be in season but not yet mature enough to give birth. So please hold your excitement, ohs and awwww’s cause I’m not a happy camper about this at all. Her body isn’t ready and I am too pissed on her behalf. This is a baby, a baby. It bothers me when stuff like this happens.

Oh wow! How are you doing with the whole pregnancy/birth thing? I think it would stress me out to have my dog pregnant.
