Oh I Can’t Even Take It

Oh-ma-lord I am so thrilled with what I found this evening/morning. See, in the middle of the night when I can’t won’t sleep I Google “sunflowers” to see what I’ll get. I saw …get this… a sunflower umbrella. That lead to many other art umbrellas. I found a Harold Feinstein Sunflower Umbrella.  I can’t see me with that particular umbrella but its still pretty. Heck, there’s an entire collection of art umbrellas. I’ve never heard of such things. This stuff is awesome!!!

Sunflower and daisy umbrella
How do I find this one in the US? Oh my goodness.
This site here ArtistGifts.com has Monet, Van Gogh, Bruce Harman, Degas and others. They even have Marie Gabrielle’s Birds of Paradise y’all.  I can’t take it. I can’t even take it.

The problem with sunflower art is that some people like to make the colours shockingly bright. I hate that.  David Kam’s Sunflower In Tornado’s Eye is good sunflower art. This is gorgeous here, here and here. June Blessings by Kay Gammill is an absolutely perfect example of great sunflower art. Nona does sunflowers right. Oh and this one, I’d kill for this one here.

It would be wrong for me to link to bad sunflower art so I won’t….except for this. This is wrong in every way.  This person should be punished, arrested, flogged and tossed under the jail cause this is beyond wrong, it’s straight up criminal. How could he do that to a sunflower? I feel tears coming on.

Anyway, on to other bad sunflower art. If there are 50 sunflowers on the canvas you’ve gone too far. If you need sunglasses to view the oh so bright flower, you’ve gone too far. If I go colour blind because of the screaming bright flower you’ve gone too far. Respect the flower. Don’t do patterns with Irish green and cobalt then a yellow sunflower on top. Please, don’t do that. Why saturate orange until it’s burned? Let the orange go people, let it go. Don’t use so much orange you make Halloween seem blue. It’s wrong, oh so wrong. That’s all I have to say about bad sunflower art. Now I’m depressing myself.

I may have pushed it a bit on this older painting of mine.

Overall it was a good Google night. Wow, a sunflower umbrella. Oh such joy in the middle of the night from a sunflower on a stick.

  • Sunflower on a stick? That’s an expressive way of putting it! I love the stuff at ArtistsGifts.com

The main reason I’ve never gotten into sunflower art is that, as you said, most of it is done in such bright colors that it distracts from the innate beauty of the flower itself. I’m glad to see you have good taste in such things.

And I love the one you did. Those are sunflowers I can handle.

  • Sunflower car – on my. I love the one you did too. Perfectly bright but not too bright.

I can see you skipping down the road with a sunflower umbrella. It would be a bright spot in a usually gray city.

  • I love your blog AND the art gifts linked to AND your sunflower painting.
