Welcome to Random Memory Friday

Way, way back when I was in ABC Pre-School I’d wake up and put my clothes on really fast, pile in the car and head out to my babysitters house. It always seemed so dark and chilly on the way over, like perpetual winter time.  It was always so dark.

As we arrived at the babysitters house we rushed to the door where we were helped with our coats. She saw my mother off then saw us to the candy dish full of spice drops. We got to choose three. I went for the green ones every time.  My sister and I then huddled on her  sofa next to a soft light and watched Cowboy Bob do whatever he did back then.  I don’t even remember the show, just his famous line of, “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.” What was there to say really? I just wanted to take the moment in. I wanted to be there on the sofa in a cozy apartment with an old lady willing to give me candy and let me watch back to back cartoons.

Despite the fact that I don’t remember her name or her face I do remember her warm gesture of inviting us into her home for a few hours a day just before we skipped off to school. This is a memory I hope to always keep.
