Drawing the first part of the body was sorta easy. It was when I drew her palms facing up that I could see me in this position getting hit.
I draw figures like this in simple clothing with a shaved head not because that’s how I was dressed or that she shaved my head but because it signifies how she focused on dehumanizing her children. The dog collar and ankle restraints are drawn as facts as are the palms up. I can draw the collar as well as harness’ a lot easier than drawing palms up. Talking about the mother beating the palms of my hands with a dowel rod is one of those subjects I find extremely difficult to discuss without panicking and vomiting in my therapist’s office. It’s a hard subject to touch.
Hold them out. Hold them still.
