For a little over a week I’ve been puppy sitting. The puppy is here during the day when her mother is at work. She’s dropped off in the morning then picked up in the afternoon. Lolly Pop aka Poppy is a 6 month old Pomeranian/Papillon Mix and is as adorable as she can possibly be.
While watching her I think my view of small dogs has changed quite a bit. I actually like this little girl. Her mother has done a great job of house training her and showing her what she can and can’t play with. Even though Poppy has that annoying bark I hate her sweetness and lap dog cuddling makes it tolerable. Maybe that’s why people like these dogs. They have more positives than the negative sound of their bark.
I don’t have a photo of Poppy but she looks a lot like this little one here who is currently up for adoption at this link.
When I first started watching her a little over a week ago things went well for a day or two but Gus and she fought over a toy. Poppy didn’t win. I figured I’d keep the toys up until she goes home then bring them out. At least that way there are fewer things to fight over. They aren’t fed together. Poppy eats before she gets here as does Gus. The funny thing is to see them tear across my yard like Mutt and Jeff. They have a total blast. After an hour or so that she’s hear I put them bot down for a short nap which is my time to be with Miss Bella Kitty who barely tolerates Poppy. Poppy ran up to Bella and got down in the “lets play” stance but Bella smacked her a good one (no claws). Poppy looked at her like, um, okay, I’m not sure what that was. She tried again with the same results. Bella was like, “What part of leave me the hell alone do you not get ya mangy mutt?” Smack, again with no claws or Poppy would have yelped. The three of them are too funny. Poppy got the drift that time and doesn’t attempt to engage her. He just looks at her like, “Somethings wrong with you. I don’t know what but something is definitely wrong?!”
So anyway, while Gus and Poppy take a nap in separate cages Bella and I spend a little time together. The great thing about having another dog here is that I don’t have to vet or feed her. I can just love her and send her home.
I should get myself ready for the day. Poppy will be here in about an hour which means I need to put up all the toys and food bowls as well as walk the fence to make sure there’s no place she can squeeze out of.
When there’s new life in the house I feel somewhat energized. This baby sitting job is no different.
PS. I made the pup a blue sweater jacket. She looks so adorable. I need to recharge my batteries so I can take photos of her next week when she’s here.
