When It All Goes South

…..get together with a girlfriend and do what we do, eat ice cream and lean on each other for support. Girl’s night out usually comes right on time, to say the least it did the other day.

This was taken at Stake and Shake with Birdie behind the cam. When I looked at the menu I was overjoyed that they had a peppermint shake. Could I really think of anything else to order but that shake? After a few times switching back and forth between me and Amy I finally got to have the shake all to myself. That darn kid ate the cherry and whipped cream, left me none of it. Anyway, at first I thought the shake was lacking but once I asked for extra peppermint it came alive and was very much worth the $4.00 paid for it. Without extra peppermint it ranks a 3 out of 10.

I came home thankful for friends and peppermint shakes.

  • Yum – Peppermint!!

  • Cute photo, you look about 12.

Icky shake, but to each their own, eh?

  • um, huh. I got-cho 12
I can’t believe I’m going to be 38 this year.

  • You’re like me, you don’t look your age. I’d put you in your mid 20s, if that. People almost fall over when they find out I’m 34 (35 in Korea age).

  • I was born in the year of the peppermint :-) I’m not sure how old that makes me in Korea but it makes me pretty darn old in the states.

I don’t really like looking as young as I do because people tend to treat me like a child.

The standing joke between me and Beauty is that I look 12 years old. LOL I don’t know why I giggle every time I see that. If I stop giggling I could finish my reply to you. LOL Anyway, somebody out there thinks I look pretty young because I keep getting carded. Thank goodness I’m tall enough now to go on carnival rides after showing my ID. To be short and young looking – what a curse. Can’t you imagine me at 2 feet tall kicking the attendant in the knee as I scream,
Me: Damn it I’m 40, let me on this ride.
Attendant: Now, now sweety, lets go get your mother.
Me: Oh I got your sweety!!

(This is exactly why I should have been asleep forever ago. I get slap happy.)

  • I still get carded for cigs…I’m about to be 41! Short is not a problem for me…but my partner is 4’11″. When her mother went to enroll her in kindergarten, the nuns tried to not allow her to enroll. They said she was too small and there were concerns that she would not be able to use the restroom on her own…because the child height john was too high for her! She also tells me stories of wearing toddler sized tights, and hiding from the nuns by crouching down behind the recess ball! She was still getting carded a little over a year ago…since she let her grey (all 4 strands of it) come in, she doesn’t get carded anymore!

My wonderful sis-in-law gave me peppermint bark for xmas…if you can still find it, I recommend it! White chocolate and peppermint, how can it go wrong?

  • The recess ball!!!! LOL That is too funny.
I found one, just one box of bark. I about had to fight for it too. That day I nearly got the leading role in the movie Short People Acting Badly. I’m not terribly short. I’m 5’4 but in my family that’s tiny.

At the store I purchased a pound of white chocolate on sale for $1.30. I’ll get some peppermint extract or something then look up the recipe for the bark.

I didn’t get any Peppermint Peeps this year because Indiana didn’t have them. According to the Peeps site, yes they have a website, the closest state to have them is Michigan. This meant I needed to take matters into my mint free hands. I got marshmallows then roasted them and dipped them in the melted peppermint bark. Let me tell you I was in heaven. It’s good stuff but not better than pep peeps.

The recess ball… that is killing me.

  • I’ve always loved peppermint…was sad not to find any pepp peeps for my hot choc. May have to try your recipe. Also, a woman who has been helping me with my triggers, balancing the right-left brain activity, etc., suggested I sniff something in my left nostril daily for 5-10 minutes as well as when I know I’ve been activated. (She also has suggested listening to music with a headphone in my right ear only daily for 5-10 min, too.) I struggle greatly with smells due to my past abuse. Perfumes, alot of the body wash products, etc., can make me sick. But peppermint I can handle. So peppermint oil has been my sniffer of choice. I keep a tiny bottle in my van. There is no telling what those passing me are thinking they are seeing through my car window! whatever. A woman’s gotta do what a woman has gotta do…
I’ve cut way down on my computer time in the past year, but when I am on I often find myself drawn to your art. It has been a part of MY healing. It continues to be. Thank you for sharing your heARt. Happy NEW Year to you! Happy NEW Decade!
    Take care, austin. — m.a.

  • It’s absolutely always good to hear from you and thank you very much for letting me know that my art touches you this way. I really appreciate that.

I’ll have to look into this right side, left side stuff. It sounds interesting. Sniffing peppermint huh? I might end up with a mint habit I can’t control. I have peppermint candles that I burn all the time. In my coffee right now is cocoa, peppermint stick, white chocolate with whipped cream on top. I can’t remember who mentioned a white chocolate latte but who ever did made me want one. I had to make my own.
