DREAM: Goldfish Out of Water

(If you happen to read this feel free to giggle at will)

Tight SqueezeI purchased a fancy goldfish from a local pet store and put it in a 20 gallon aquarium alone. At first it did just fine but then it started jumping out of the aquarium and onto the table where the aquarium sat. I’d hurry and put him back in but a few hours later I’d find him out again. Each time I found him he was significantly larger than before. He’d gotten so large that it began to kind of freak me out to pick him up and put him back in the aquarium.

One time this fish named Leon attached himself to the ceiling and hung out for a bit before maneuvering himself back in his aquatic home. Another time he sat on the branch of a silk tree and watched Bella who was on another branch. Bell wasn’t sure what to think of this over-sized fish so she just sat there until he squirmed away and went back home.

Because Leon’s behavior was odd I called the local vet who told me that sometimes large fancy goldfish leave their habitat and stay on land up to an hour without dying. He said it was normal for the extra large ones to stay out longer than that. He instructed me to get him a much larger home than he was in which may keep him from lounging around the house. I didn’t have a larger aquarium but I did have an in ground whirlpool in the middle of my warehouse home which could be used for Leon. The filtration system was so strong on it that it washed the water right out the door, cleaned it against the rocks and filtered it back in. Once it was turned on you had to be careful when entering and exiting. So I put Leon in the whirlpool but that didn’t help much. He got bigger and bigger until finally he was human size. At this point my warehouse apartment changed to the apartment I lived in when I was three years old. It’s also the apartment where I remember the first abuse and where I firmly believe I became a multiple.

In the apartment Leon began walking around in a worried manner. He was obviously having some sort of anxiety. He began taking apart pillows and stuffed animals to make a nest for himself. I picked up the phone and called the vet who informed me this nesting behavior meant Leon was a girl and was about to give birth. I allowed Leona to use whatever stuffed animals she wanted. Just as she began to tear a bear apart she groaned and told me to catch the newborn. As she stood a thick white paste with black spots came from her rectum. In that white paste was a fancy goldfish about 4 inches in size. She told me to wash him off, let his scales dry then place him in the whirlpool. She gave birth to one more then joined her babies in the pool. From there on I never saw her again.

The two babies grew so fast that the pool wasn’t large enough for them anymore so I started trying to find new homes for them. In one house a man had a 200 gallon fish tank but he wanted the fish as feeders. I declined to give them to him. After telling him they’d stay with me for now he offered to help me get a bigger aquarium. He took me through several old ones of his but they were all plastic and didn’t allow me to see the fish. I wanted to see them swim around. After moving several large pink plastic aquariums he pulled out a blue plastic tub and opened it up. From the tub he pulled a pack of 10 red pens with one blue felt tip mixed in. The man told me he was just going to toss them so if I wanted them I could have them. He also handed me several small notebooks but I just sat them aside. I could tell by the look on his face he was hurt by it so I asked what was in them. His personal poetry was in there and he wanted me to have it. I felt it may have information in it I didn’t really want to know, stuff too personal for strangers but to not hurt his feelings I accepted the notebooks. I woke up from there.

  • Oh my. This reminds me of a book that my daughter brought home recently. It is about a little boy that gets a fish and is cautioned not to feed it too much. He overfeeds it and it grows and grows and grows – fills the bowl, the sink, the tub, the pool, etc.

I have no idea the intepretation of this dream but it sure does make for delightful reading!

  • LOL I’ve not heard of the book.

I don’t think I would have given the dream much thought had it not mostly taken place in the apartment where I was first abused. From the outside it must look rather silly…it is but it isn’t I guess. You got the whole fish out of water chillin’ with the cat stuff …. how can you not laugh at that? It was just so random to see Bella in there. Most of the other stuff wasn’t random at all and was rather specific to my past. It just sort of played out looking rather silly. This was one of those dreams I can live with. It didn’t haunt me. Heck I even considered renaming one of my fish Leon. LOL
