Why I Like Mary Jane

I’m a dog person through and through but somehow I like my cat more than I like my dog. Yeah, I know, how did that happen?

MJ is very much like a dog in that she follows me around and comes when I call her. Just like a pup she’s a greedy little something who would eat all day long if I let her. The most cat that’s in her is how she takes care of her fur and refuses to get it dirty. She keeps the dog in line with a few swipes to the nose, usually because he’s come in from outside smelling bad and she doesn’t want her fur messed up. To see her lift her big furry paw is the funniest thing ever. I think Gus licks her just cause he thinks its funny. I think it’s funny too.

MJ is four years old, 12 pounds and a ball of love. She likes to be held and sleeps on my pillow and purrs in my ear. She even tries to clean my face from time to time with her extra rough sandpaper tongue. That’s not so helpful but it’s the gesture that counts right?

Despite the fact that she loses her mind and runs around the house at 11pm sharp she is mild and well mannered. For some reason 11 is her time to lose it and dash from room to room pouncing on imaginary aliens. That’s okay though, in about 10 min or so she’ll wear herself out, come back down to earth then curl up on my lap and purr. The girl is sweet. The thing I like about her most is how mild she is and how she’ll come right up to me and make herself comfortable on my lap. She wants to be next to me and will come because she wants to and not because I called her.  Her personality and that she wants to be next to me makes her irresistibly adorable….that and her fang teeth.

This morning I woke to my best K-9 pal Gus at my side and my best Feline pal Mary Jane on my hip. Despite the fact that the day has been trial-some I look back on the morning with much appreciation, and smile.
