On Droughts and Terrariums

My poor yard is so dead. August 2010 is the driest month on record for all of Indiana’s history and my yard is good and dead as proof.

Pretty much the only thing alive outside (other than weeds) is a tiny little terrarium hung out there for the purpose of this photo, everything else is dry, brown, dead or dying. The yard looks like its nothing but dust that gets dragged into the house and smashed into my already pitifully worn carpet. I look forward to a down pour or two in the near future.

. .

The tiny moss terrarium is made of an empty Christmas tree ornament that I found on sale at dollar tree. I won’t use it as a holiday item but it still made for a great hanging terrarium. I followed these simple instructions with a drawn diagram to layer it then I added moss from my yard. I used an old paint brush handle to place the moss inside and used a tiny little cloth on the end of the handle to clean the inside glass when I was done. I think it’s kinda cute. I might have to go back to Dollar Tree and get another pack of two for a quarter. Gotta love a sale.
