I’m Too Old For This

I just spent 30 min chasing this rascal out in the cold.

Yesterday evening, late yesterday evening he was brought to me. As we walked in the house I fell flat on my back with him in my arms then today I chased him for 30 min. He’s cute but I’m so happy he’s being adopted Monday. I’m too old for this shit.

Putting My Head Together

I have 2 hours before I need to head off to work which means I need to get my head together. I’m in a fog but I need to get clear so I can drive and look half ways normal.

Janie and the Doll

It’s been quiet here with Janie or as I like to call her, Miss Jane Thing. Here’s a few shots of Janie in the box my doll came in. When I got the doll I ripped open the package like I’d never gotten anything in the mail before then I made the mistake of walking away from the box at which point Janie decided it belonged to her.

I like that the lady who sold me the doll re-used packing materials. She turned Christmas paper inside out, recycled packing tissue paper and used brown paper sacks as stuffing. Kudos to her for doing that. I was even thrilled to see some pink paper in there.  :-)

One Little White Frog

Friday afternoon I prepared for work with the rescue cats at the shelter. As I prepared I passed one of the small tanks which holds two African Albino Clawed Frogs. I noticed the filter wasn’t running which sort of alarmed me because I saw dollar signs. I thought, man, don’t stop now, I can’t afford to buy a filter this month. I hoped it was just a rock that stopped it or something so I lifted the filter out thinking I’d see a rock but what I saw was a small white frog. He’d been sucked into the filtration system and had his arms chopped by the rotating wheel. He was still alive. Being all white and nearly transparent I could see broken blood vessels and internal bleeding. I ended up needing to humanely euthanize him. (Orajel and freezing). This for some seems like a long drawn out process but it is faster and more humane than flushing.

When I told someone how to humanely euthanize a fish or frog they thought I was out of my mind. They thought it was odd I didn’t just flush it.  Would you toss your dog or cat in the rapids and hope for a quick death? No.You’d put him down humanely and that’s what I did. Big or little, they shouldn’t have to suffer in the end.

My Cat Has A Split Personality

I bite ... and I have fangs. You laugh but its true. Mary Jane has two personalities, one that likes me and the other that likes to bite me. Wednesday afternoon I sat at the PC holding her in one arm while reading blogs. Out of nowhere the girl lifted her head and bit me on the cheek. Why? What on earth did I do? We sat there together, quietly then she turned her fangs on my face. She tagged me good too, she didn’t break the skin but she sure as shootin’ nailed me.

Since she’s been here I’ve wondered what it would be like to be tagged with her kitty fangs. Now I know.

One might think Vampira got down and went about her business but nope, she put her head back down and lie there as if nothing happened. Let me tell you this, if she bites me again I’m gonna bite her silly ass back. Not really, but the look on her face would be priceless if I did.

Pet-EZE™ Step 2

I went to Petsmart and got some Pet-EZE™  for Mary Jane. I got what’s called Step 2 for her in the pill form. I give her 1/2 a pill around 9pm and it calms her just enough that she’s not pacing the floors yowling. As a matter of fact she seems rather content…she’s even playing with her toys and stuff. She’s not drooling or staggering around or anything like that. She sleeps regularly, not more than I’d expect her too. The best sign for me that the meds aren’t dragging her down is to see her play.

Around 11pm last night she did that thing where cats lose their heads for an hour and run all over the house. That doesn’t bother me at all. I like to see it, it tells me they’re alive and playful and happy. Later in the evening, when she covered the apartment about 30 times, she came in the room and rested on the bed with me. Calm, calm, calm… and seemingly happy.

Therein lies the difference

… you grew up with and around them, I grew up fearing them. I grew up watching them burned alive, shot or scalded. I was even shot over a cat and kittens. I grew up hearing they have bad spirits, that they are spirits and killers. I grew up hearing they’re sneaking and ‘know unknowable things’. I grew up hearing them howl in pain, not purr.

I had Bella and Gracie for four years and for the most part things went well. Unfortunately Gracie had a tumor that drove the poor girl out of her mind. That for me was rather frightening because I had no clue what was going on. The only thing I had to go on was past stories of possession and sight.
