Mousey Bear

little-mouse-bear .little-mouse-bear-and-friend

This little guy doesn’t know if he wants to be a mouse or a teddy bear but one thing is for certain, he fits inside a soup mug perfectly. Here he sits beside his friend the on the bookshelf with a sunflower candle holder peeking out at the side of the photo.

I found out today that making shoes for dolls isn’t that hard. I actually made a pair today that look pretty good. They’ll go on one of two that’ll be completed soon…I hope.

The little mouse guy isn’t for sale. He’s mine all mine.

Hand Sewn Ragdoll

Here’s my latest rag doll. She’s a sweet girl with medium brown hair, medium blue eyes and a blue dress with lace and roses. She’s got two flowers in her hair and eyes that say, “Hug me.”

I used a different type of yarn for the hair than I’ve ever used before. It’s a very soft brushed yarn. I think it was a good choice. Also, I stopped using the same medium as I did for the lips on other dolls because I wasn’t that impressed with how it turned out. The lips on this sweety are done in fabric paint then heat sealed. Another change I’ve made to the dolls is that I’ve shortened the arms to my homemade pattern. This makes her a lot more in proportion. Like the other dolls her head stands up on hit’s own.

In the future I may try to figure out how to round off the hands and feet and I’ve strongly considered learning to make doll shoes. Buying shoes for the dolls can get expensive so I’d rather avoid that if at all possible or it’ll drive the cost up.

So, here she is, a little bit of sweetness excitedly looking forward to her new adoptive home.

Sewing Machine Project

Sweet Dolly Sue is the first completed doll using my little Singer sewing machine. The bear seen with her was done by hand.

Thank you to the individual who tossed their sofa pillows out on heavy trash day. They’re soon to be turned into more bears.

Note: The pillow fabric was washed very well prior to being sewn. We call this sanitary recycling :-) Her little hat use to be a small lamp shade and her hair use to be a winter scarf. I call this creative up-cycling.

The little bear shown here is about 8 inches tall, creamy white and is wearing a handmade plaid green/cream/brown scarf. I have two bears available.

The doll is 20 inches tall. She’s wearing a blue and cream coloured jumper with a cream coloured lacy ribbon and small navy blue shoes. Her hair is curly black, her eyes are greenish-blue and her lips are in the shape of a happy heart.

I need to stop before I make myself diabetic from the sweetness of Dolly Sue.

The bear and the doll are sold separately. The sunflower is for display purposes only.  Please see the small gallery below for price details and contact information. These are available through PayPal or my Etsy shop. Click the photos twice to make them larger.

Dolls and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

I’ve been working my hardest to keep moving and not think too much on the last few weeks….or months. I think I’m back to my normal pain level which is manageable for the most part. This lets me get back to doll making and painting and such.

I also tried again to use the stick pins. I can sometimes but other times I can’t. One thing I started doing was keeping count of how many I used. I write the number down on scrap material then sew the numbered scraps together like a tiny little quilt. I thought it would be kind of a cool thing to frame after it gets larger. Anyway….

The doll pictured here is called Mia. She’s 26 inches tall, she sits up on her own and her head stands up on its own. This hand sewn rag doll is wearing a black and white checkered dress with black heart pockets and decorative buttons. Her white blouse has small white bows on the shoulders. To finish off her outfit she’s wearing white stockings and black patent leather shoes. What I like most about Mia is her little curly afro which has itsy-bitsy tiny little specks of silver glitter sewn right into the yarn. When I saw it I knew it would be great for hair. I have to say I like her little fro.   So here she is, Mia from the Charline Doll Collection.

As far as the therapeutic aspect of doll making, it’s slow in coming. Continue reading ‘Dolls and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder’

Angel

The second Charlene Doll has been completed. You can see her here. Once you see her you’ll understand why her name is Angel.

This is the second Charlene Doll dedicated to my little friend Charlene.

Rag Dolls, Playdough and Googly Eyes

Doll Playdough Head

So here’s my progress. I’d say the doll is a far step forward from the very first doll I did. I’m still working on her face though. I’ve got eye lashes to add and other small details. She even has hand painted earings. Her face is hand painted.

Since I was doing an all-niter I ended up making a little head with yarn hair out of playdough. See what happens when crafting goes wrong? This, this here, playdough heads, bright orange playdough heads with sunflower eyes and a little black cluster beaded nose. Sleep is a must or other crafts like this may result.
