It came time to refill my fondaparinux shots which cost $5000 a month and that is usually covered by my insurance. The insurance company has denied payment and demands I use a cheaper blood thinner. I’m allergic to the other thinners such as Lovenox and Heparin. I bled internally and can’t take them.
Here I am 1.5 yrs into taking the shot daily and these people are going to argue payment. It could take up to a week to get it approved again!
What do I do for a blood thinner I must take daily or risk life threatening clots again? Well, several months in a row I ordered shots a day or two early which allowed me to save 10 shots for situations just like this. Hopefully this will be resolved in less than 10 days and I can have a sigh of relief.
Once re-approved I’ll order a day or two early again so I can hold shots back. I never miss and I don’t let the shots I hold back expire.
I’d be lying if I said I’m not a little bit worried. After all, I don’t usually blog at 4 am. I guess I remember all too well what happened without the blood thinner.

This is ridiculous and life threatening that you have to have this reapproved years later. Praying for a fast resolution.
We need universal health care in the U.S. These insurance companies are profiting off of denying people like you and me essential life saving medication!
Praying…
