I started out with several squares of clay and just sort of kept messing around until I got to a spot where I thought I might be on to something. When I realized I was on to something I punched it all down and started over. I formed the face with more features, added a shawl, lacy texture to the bottom of the dress, a hat and folder hands at her chest.

Pull to Pieces is a small oil painting (5 x 7) created with the aide of a toothpick. One of the fun things about this painting is that it is painted whole and strong at the top but it begins to crack and mute towards the bottom.
This high texture piece was incredibly fun. I started off by treating watercolor paper by alternating between water sprays and white spray paint. I then painted the mountain with a gold tip. Before it was completely dry I pressed the entire painting against a dry sheet of paper. This press is how I was able to get an earthy texture. The last thing I did was add the rose in full bloom at the mountain’s summit.
This painting is from a dream I had yesterday evening. A man and I argued about how I’m the one who put a bolder in front of me and I’m the one who needs to move it. There’s a hint of the man up in the corner standing over two small figures.

What do you get when you mix a Christmas ornament, adobe clay and acrylic paints? You get three hand designed turquoise and bronze ornaments to decorate a hand strung hairpipe bone plant hanger.
The design is drip glaze style achieved by layering acrylics over adobe clay. The ornaments were allowed to air dry then a clear sealer was added. Continue reading “Turquoise and Bronze Ornaments”
This is a hand formed clay rectangle ornament with a single sunflower painted in oils. The ornament is about 4 inches by 2.5 inches with a half inch thickness making this solid and of a good weight. It has a stressed/aged feel and is accented with a light blue sky and green grass.
The ornaments are easier to make than they are to photograph.

I ran across some small ornaments that I thought might be fun to paint. The original ornament is made of glass but with an adobe clay overlay, acrylic paints and water proof seal I was able to come up with a whole new look. The clay overlay strengthens the ornament making it harder to break which I like because I’m a bit clumsy sometimes.
How to:
Basically what I did was paint on the clay then I let it dry. IÂ painted on a base color, let that dry then added various layers of partially transparent acrylics. This let the base color come through but in different shades. The final color added was to the very top which was allowed to drip down the sides . What I didn’t do was spin the ornaments because that’s a less controlled technique. I wanted the colors to blend in places but not to have a spun appearance. I think dipping helps control the paint and lets it drip down nicely. Of course when you dip you’ve got build up at the bottom so just take a small cloth (not a napkin) and dab the bottom so that you don’t have that little drop of paint drying under the sphere. Once it’s dry spray it with a seal and dab the bottom the same as you did with excess paint. Viola, there’s your redesigned, up-cycled ornament.
There’s a little egg shaped child, with big brown eyes, dressed in purple, standing by sunflowers. She calls herself Petunia.
The mama snail I added to my aquarium recently had a few babies. I’ve watched these little tiny lives grow from the size of a pencil eraser to now the size of a dime. They’re so, so sweet. For those of you who are unaware Little Duck is my nickname, which means the little duck in the picture is me following them around watching them grow.
The original sketch is in my sketchbook and was done in ink and tea stains. The picture published has coloring corrections and a few tiny other details added.

. .Focus and grow against all odds. These two pieces from my art therapy sketchbook shown two figures with a central eye directing them through life. Both have one large flower included in the painting and a very still background. “Version Two” shows much more activity with the sun on her shoulder and pools of water on her breasts. She, unlike “Version One” has a scar under breast and is holding a single red flower. She also has flowers above her head and blades of grass at her feet. I’d describe the two pieces as figurative and surreal.
.“Snakes Scorpions and Mothers” is also an oil painting from my private art journal. It shows a mother holding her newborn as well as a snake around the mother’s neck. With an out stretched hand she holds a golden egg. You’ll also see wheat, small and large flowers, a churning sky in the background and detailed home life in the wings of the mother.
“Mother of the World” also shows a mother holding her newborn. She’s standing in a field of fantasy flowers, swirls and colors that run into one another. Some of the colors were made to drip, run and bleed into one another for a raw yet strikingly chaotic atmosphere. You will notice that in addition to holding the child up right she has balanced growth and life in the other. Included in this painting are black flowers and a red crown above the mother’s head.
